How to make your window look bigger

I'm sure you've read a dozen posts on hanging your curtains high and wide to make a window look bigger, so I'll skip the details on that. I'll just show you the real life example of our guest room before and afters. I added the dark bamboo blinds from Lowe's and then hung the curtains high and wide. I can't believe how much bigger the window looks! It really does work. This is just the second step of a mini guest room makeover. The first step was adding the dark brown silky shams and queen quilt from Target. I found such a great deal, the set was $25, marked down from $100. I was so happy with the find, I bought both sets that they had in the store (one in dark brown and one in a silvery grey)!

Here is the window after. (Bamboo blinds added and curtains hung high and wide) The window now looks as big as the bed! I love it! It was later in the day when I took this photo, so it was hard to get a good shot since so much light was coming in, and I'm not a professional photographer!

Another shot of the after. I lowered the bamboo blinds so that you could see how they look. (side note, I actually kept the white mini blinds under the bamboo blinds as well. I figured that when guests actually use this room, they would prefer that it stay nice and dark so they can sleep in.)

A few more steps to go in this mini makeover. Don't hold your breath though.....it is not really planned out yet! Hopefully a new fan, new paint on the walls, and possibly a DIY headboard will be coming soon.
