Kitchen Reno - Week 5 - WOW!

Week 5 is done! We are getting down to the last couple of days! I can't believe it! I got Geoff and I a cooking class for our Valentine's Day gift, and the class is actually next week. Couldn't have been more perfect timing. Once the kitchen is done, and we go to the cooking class, we should be cooking up a storm in the new kitchen in no time! After all, we did use that as the biggest excuse for renovating the kitchen.

Week 5 Summary of events:
cabinet crown, threshold, sink & faucet, granite, undercabinet lighting, backsplash, powder room, french door.....see, that's why the post is WOW! I can't believe they got all that done in 1 week.

First up, cabinet crown: We loved the molding that was added to the bottom of the cabinets last week so much that we decided to add crown as well. It makes such a big difference. (please ignore the cabinet color...I painted them a cream color 3 years ago when we first moved in, but I now need to put a fresh coat of white on them so that they match everything else.)
The new threshold is also in! Our living room has always been a couple inches lower than the kitchen, it just wasn't as noticeable with a small opening. Now that there is a 10 foot opening, the step was very obvious, especially since one end is only an inch and the other end is a few inches! Since the living room floors were not level, our best option was to have a carpenter custom build this tiny ramp out of a solid piece of oak so that they could adjust for the height difference at each end. Now, you can't even tell that the floors aren't level. It was stained to match our current hardwood floors, and the color turned out perfect!
Granite is in!! So, the sink and faucet were also hooked up and are working!
Friday I worked from home, and here was my office.....It is so nice!
And I think Jasper agrees! Although he was very confused that I was home during a work day.
Undercabinet lighting is in, as well as the backsplash. It will be grouted on Monday with a dark brown grout to match the grout we used on the floors.
To the left of the fridge back in the hallway, the pretty new french door was installed to the laundry room. I still need to paint it white and frost the glass so you can't see in! It really adds a lot of light to the back hallway, and the kitchen, which is nice, since you can see everything from the living room.
Bottom right is another view of the tiny ramp threshold. (ignore the mud work on the right side, it will be touched up on Monday.)

What's behind this door?????

The new powder room vanity, faucet, and sconces are in! Still need to hang up the mirror.

The new toliet is now working!

After the grout is done on Monday, they will do the last finishing touches, and install a couple of small pendants over the island and then they should be done. The final inspections should take place on Tueday, and our final walk through and approval will be on Wednesday! Just need to figure out what bottle of wine or champagne we are going to open to celebrate!?
